HopCat Suspending Brewery Production – Equipment to be Sold by New Mill Capital

After 11 years, HopCat is suspending its brewing operations at their Grand Rapids, MI location.

HopCat opened its doors to Grand Rapids in January 2008 on Ionia Avenue. Since its start, HopCat – Grand Rapids has been listed in the Top 50 bars in the United States by Draft Magazine, ranked #3 Beer Bar in the world by Beer Advocate Magazine, and #1 Brewpub in the United States by RateBeer.com

HopCat has decided to cease production of their own beer to pursue local brewery partnerships. Joe Sonheim, Director of Marketing at BarFly told MiBiz that “instead of focusing on ourselves, [we’re] focusing on bringing in some of those local breweries we haven’t had the opportunity to work with.”

HopCat’s brewery equipment is set to be auctioned off online on August 27th. Bidding for the equipment will open on August 20th at 11 AM (EST). Items include a high polish 3-vessel 3.5 BBL brewhouse package with controls, 3.5 BBL fermenters, and brite tanks, along with a chiller.

Eric Weiler, Principal at New Mill Capital said “the equipment from HopCat is perfect for local Michigan breweries to use as a brewpub display and production. This is a great opportunity for similar companies to upgrade or increase production capacity before the launch of seasonal fall beer.”

HopCat Grand Rapids is located at 25 Ionia Ave. Interested buyers are welcome to schedule an appointment to inspect the equipment.
